How has the media evolved into digital marketing?
What have human beings done to make media more accessible through digital marketing?
The media have always been a form of “Communication” and “Expression."

It all began with sounds, signals, and signs that evolved into languages, ultimately giving rise to cave paintings and the development of scripts and hieroglyphics.
Then, fast-forward from 3000 BC to 1440 AD, with the invention of the printing press and the advent of print media, print marketing underwent a revolution by the 1800s.
We then had the Telephone and Radio facilitate communication beyond just print, with the first telemarketing company, “Dial America,” being established in 1957.
The first Radio advertisement was aired in 1922, marking the beginning of broadcast media, which led to Television joining the bandwagon with TV advertising debuting as early as 1941.
With the advent of the Internet and its widespread accessibility, the era of Digital Marketing began, starting with email marketing in the 1990s.
With the introduction of Social Media, communication became a two-way stream and a literal forum where multiple people engaged in conversations between companies and their customers/targeted demographics, increasing transparency.
Marketing aside, media now influences every aspect of a person’s life, primarily through algorithms. With the data protection laws being less stringent in the US, unlike the GDPR, this has enabled more targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, and increased data collection.
From Tablets with Hieroglyphics to Tablets with Applications, we have come a long way, and we have a long way to go.
Human beings have improved media by making smartphones accessible to all people, regardless of their budget or social background. This has increased the reach of information and facilitated better channels of communication among people worldwide.
Human beings have also made media more inclusive for people with disabilities, whether it be visual impairment or any other condition, with the help of voice-overs, captioning, audio descriptions, and text-to-speech software.
Media has remained consistent over time, across various channels, by doing what it was meant to do - “Facilitate Mass Communication”.
